How to create a Quantity Discounts offer

Overview

A Quantity Discounts offer (also called quantity breaks) lowers the price per item when the shopper buys more of the same product. For example: buy 1 at the standard price, buy 2 and save 10%, buy 3 and save 15%. The shopper picks a tier on the product page and the discount applies in the cart.

By default the widget shows on the product page, above the Add to cart button.

Before you start

Steps

1. Choose Quantity Discounts and a template

  1. In Xboost Bundle, open Offers and click Create offer.
  2. On the Quantity Discounts card, click Create an offer.
  3. Optional: pick a Color theme at the top right.
  4. Click Select and customize on a template.

The offer opens in the editor as a Draft with a name like "Quantity Discounts 3". Click Edit offer name to rename it. Shoppers do not see this name.

2. Choose the products (Trigger)

Under Select products to display the offer, choose where the offer shows:

  • Specific product: only on the products you select.
  • Automated: on products in the collections you select.
  • All products: on every product.
  • All products except: on every product except the ones you select.

Optional: tick Scheduled time to set a start and end date. Click Next.

3. Set up the tiers (Offer)

The Quantity breaks discount section lists the tiers, for example #1 Buy 1, #2 Buy 2 and #3 Buy 3.

Click a tier to open it:

  1. Under Offer text, edit the Title, Sub title and Discount label. Click the {} button next to a field to insert a variable, such as {{price}} (price after discount) or {{discount}} (discount amount). The eye icon hides that text on the widget.
  2. Under Discount content, set the Quantity and the Discount type:
    • Default price: no discount for this tier.
    • Bundle discount: a discount on each item. Set Unit (% or $) and Amount.
    • Fixed price: the tier sells at a fixed price.
  3. Optional: tick Selected by default to pre-select this tier. Only one tier can be selected by default.
  4. Optional: under Most popular badge, type a Tag such as "Most Popular" and pick a Badge style. To turn the badge into a countdown, put {{timer}} in the tag, then set Countdown time (hh:mm:ss) and Timer end behavior (Loop, Stop or Disappear). See How to add a badge or a countdown to a tier.
  5. Optional: click Add upsell to offer another product at a discount inside this tier, or Add free gift to add a free product. See How to add an upsell or a free gift to a tier.

To add a tier, click Add tier. To remove one, click the trash icon on the tier. If two tiers have the same quantity, only the first tier's discount applies.

On the last tier, Allow users to buy extra items shows an input box where shoppers can enter an additional quantity. It is not available when the tier uses Fixed price. The Show extra quantity input ( Setting in offer ) option on the Appearance step controls this input box.

Progressive gifts adds free or discounted gifts that unlock by tier. For each gift you choose the product, the discount and the tier that unlocks it (Tier N, Tier N or higher or Tier N or lower). See How to add progressive gifts to a Quantity Discounts offer.

4. Optional: connect other XBoost apps (Integrations)

Below the tiers, Integrations connects the offer with other XBoost apps:

  • Display offer on cart drawer: tick Show this offer for trigger product on cart drawer to also show the offer in XB: AI Cart Upsell Cart Drawer. The app must be installed.
  • Display Trust Badge on Bundle, Display Countdown Timer on Bundle and Display Estimated Delivery on Bundle: pick a design you made in XB: Trust Badges & Trust Icons, XB: Countdown Timer Bar Banner or XB Estimated Delivery Date EDD, then pick a position (Top, Bottom or Below offer title). Click Refresh after you create a new design in the other app. See How to show trust badges, countdown timers and delivery dates in an offer.

5. Optional: Settings

  • Customization > Offer title: the heading above the tiers, for example "Buy More & Save More".
  • Pricing setting > Price rounding: rounds the discounted price up to the price ending you choose, such as .99 or .95. See How to round discounted prices.
  • Variant Setting: click Set default variants to choose the variant each tier starts with. Under Option, pick a product option and choose how it shows: Default dropdown, Color swatch dropdown or Color swatch, with a Swatch size and Swatch shape (Circle, Rounded or Square).   • Use this code for custom placement or page builders (Optional): copy this code to place the widget yourself. See Change where the widget shows.

Click Next.

6. Adjust the look (Appearance)

  • Content: Show compare price and Show extra quantity input ( Setting in offer ).
  • Variant: Let customers choose different variants for each item, Show image per variant, Combined Option in a dropdown and Show variant option name. When a shopper picks different variants in one tier, your theme's Buy it now and express checkout buttons are hidden. See Why are the Buy it now and express checkout buttons hidden?
  • Store theme: Hide theme price and Hide theme variant hide your theme's price and variant picker. Change theme variant when change on widget updates the theme's variant and image when the shopper changes the variant in a tier.   • Design: Tier photo size, Variant photo size, Space percentage and Radius corner.
  • Colors, Text size and Custom CSS.

Click Reset to default to go back to the template values.

7. Publish

Click Publish at the top right. Then open a product that the offer targets to check the widget, or use Test on storefront.

Change where the widget shows

The widget places itself above the Add to cart button. To put it somewhere else:

  • Theme editor: open your product template, click Add block and add the Quantity Breaks app block from Xboost Bundle. The block's Margin Horizontal setting sets the space above and below the widget.
  • Page builders or custom code: copy the code under Use this code for custom placement or page builders (Optional) and paste it where the widget should show. The code is an empty div with the id xb-quantity-breaks-root.

Make the widget shorter

  • Lower Space percentage under Design on the Appearance step.
  • Lower the text sizes under Text size, or the photo sizes under Design.
  • Use Custom CSS to change the padding. New Quantity Discounts offers start with this example:

Change the font

The widget uses your theme's font. To use another font, add a font-family rule in Custom CSS on the Appearance step. Type a dot (.) in the editor to see the widget's class names, or click Show list. For example:
